Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into carefully selected points on the body to elicit specific physiological responses, such as increased local blood flow, modulation of the nervous system and the release of natural pain-relieving compounds. Modern research continues to validate what Eastern medicine has used effectively for thousands of years, with well-documented effects on pain regulation, inflammation, neurological function, hormonal regulation, digestion and immune response. By stimulating the body's own regulatory systems, acupuncture helps restore proper function and overall balance.
This varies depending on your condition, your health and your goals. Acute issues may resolve in just a few sessions, while chronic or complex conditions typically benefit from a series of treatments over several weeks or months. Acupuncture is a therapy, much like other physical therapies, and most patients begin to notice positive changes after 3 to 6 sessions.
Your first session includes a thorough intake where we'll talk about your health history, lifestyle and what brought you in. Then you'll lie comfortably on a treatment table while fine needles are placed at carefully chosen points, often along the arms, legs, back, or abdomen. Needles stay in for about 20 to 30 minutes while you rest. We use red light therapy for photobiomodulatiton and Erik uses manual therapy in addition to acupuncture. Most people find our sessions deeply relaxing and often fall asleep.
Drink plenty of water, eat a light meal and avoid intense exercise, alcohol or heavy stress right after the session. Relaxation after the session is helpful if possible. Some people feel energized after treatment; others feel pleasantly tired or even a little emotional. All of this is normal and part of the healing process. We will give you any specific aftercare guidance at the end of your visit.
Acupuncture is generally very safe to combine with other treatments and is frequently used to compliment western medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage, and more. It's important to let us know about any medications, supplements, or other therapies you're currently receiving so we can coordinate your care appropriately.
We do not accept insurance; however we can provide you with a receipt/superbill of your treatment for you to submit to your insurance provider.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily rolled up to the elbows and knees. Since many acupuncture points are located on the arms, legs, and lower back, this makes it much easier to access treatment areas without needing to fully undress. You're welcome to change into a gown at the office if you prefer. Your comfort is always the priority.
Our acupuncture needles are incredibly fine, so insertion is usually barely noticeable. Everyone has a unique threshold of sensitivity and you might feel a mild tingle, warmth or dull ache, this is a sign the body is recognizing the effect of the session. Most people are comfortable with the needles once they have an experience or two and most relax deeply and/or fall asleep.
They use similar tools, but they are not the same. Dry needling is a technique practiced primarily by physical therapists and is focused on releasing muscular trigger points. Its scope is more limited and its training is very minimal in terms of acupuncture theory. Acupuncture is a complete medical system with thousands of years of history, practiced by licensed acupuncturists who undergo extensive clinical training. Acupuncture addresses a much broader range of conditions and treats the whole person, not just a localized area of pain.
East Asian herbal medicine has supported human health for millennia. When herbs are skillfully blended together, their bioactive compounds enter the bloodstream and interact directly with the body's nervous system, vascular network, and immune pathways, the very systems that regulate how we feel, heal, and function.Different combinations can calm an overactive stress response, improve circulation to under-nourished tissues, reduce inflammatory signaling, or stimulate immune activity where the body needs support.
It can support you in almost every facet of your health, from warding off colds, to pain relief, hormonal balance, and plenty more.
Red light therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body's natural healing processes. When applied to the skin, these wavelengths penetrate into the deeper layers of tissue, where they stimulate cellular energy production, reduce inflammation, and promote circulation. Think of it as giving your cells a boost, helping them repair, regenerate, and function more efficiently.
Red light therapy is used to support skin health, muscle recovery, joint pain, wound healing, and even mood and sleep. It's painless, relaxing, and works beautifully alongside acupuncture.
Yes, when performed by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is safe and can be genuinely supportive throughout all trimesters. We work with pregnant patients for morning sickness, back pain, breech presentation, labor preparation, and postpartum recovery. We observe all standard contraindications and can always consult with your OB when appropriate.
Our initial session last 75-90 minutes and costs $225. We charge a flat rate of $150 for all return visits regardless of which modalities we use. That means if your treatment includes acupuncture, manual therapy and red light therapy in the same session, the price doesn't change. If it includes acupuncture, an herbal consult and red light therapy, the price doesn't change. If it includes acupuncture, red light therapy, a nutritional supplement recommendation and a set of stretching recommendation, the cost is still $150. New patient visits carry an additional $75 fee to account for the extended intake time. Herbal formulas and supplements are priced separately based on what's prescribed.
Between the two of us we cover a wide range including chronic and acute pain, migraines, digestive disorders, fertility support, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, and recovery from injury or illness. If you're not sure whether your situation is a good fit, reach out and we'll tell you honestly.
We kindly ask that you have a credit card on file with us before coming in for your appointment. If you would like to make alternative arrangements, please get in touch.
